Why is Apple's phone called "iPhone"?

Updated: Jul 20, 2022

Steve Jobs, and Steve Woznaik, the founders of Apple named their phone... The iPhone. Why? Well you'll find out WHY in this blog!

The part "i" in iPhone doesn't make sense at all. You might be guessing internet for "i", well I'm really sorry, but you're partly wrong. There is not 1 word that stands for, "i" but actully 5 words!

The name starts well before the iPhone was made. Apples first product, the iMac which was made in 1998 had it's "i" stand for "internet" because most computers back then, didn't have the internet!(I still can't process that) Well that's what probably the whole world thought at least. Although, when the first iMac released, the "i" had other meanings too...

Steve Jobs said in the presentation for the iMac, that the "i" in iMac stand for internet, individual, insruct, inform and inspire.

These words were important to the presentation, however Steve Jobs also said that the "i" doesn't have an official meaning. And it also might mean "i" as a personal pronoun because you can personalize the phone, to FIT yourself.

NO NO NO! Not like that type of fit! Why in

the world would you- You know what, I'm

not going to even ask.

So I guess the "i" doesn't really have an official meaning, but after doing some more research I figured out, that most websites say that the "i" stands for internet, individual, instruct, inform and inspire. But you can choose whatever meaning you think is right!
